Legal Studies Magnet
Miami Lakes Middle School’s vision is to ensure that students become life-long critical thinkers and rationalize the short term and long term impacts we have on decisions we make. Both the Cambridge and Legal Studies Magnet programs emphasize this vision through the various activities we participate in. Our goal is to present students with real-world situations and work collaboratively with peers to research possible solutions that will yield the best results.
In the Legal Studies Magnet program, students are visited by acting judges, lawyers, and police officers. These visitors present real cases that they are working on, and have students collaborate alongside them to develop a solid court case, filled with carefully researched evidence to support their claims. Students go out into the community, conduct field research, and bring back a plethora of ideas to brainstorm ways that their actions can benefit the citizens of the community, while following the correct policies put in place by legislation. Even visits to Town Hall aren’t off limits!
